A Myriad Of Trees Thrive In The Ultimately Umbrageous Eastern
Cross Timbers
Mother Nature devoted eons to creating what is known as the “Eastern
Cross Timbers”, a narrow area of sandy, loamy, slightly
acidic soil that stretches from near Austin into southeast Kansas.
It passes between Fort Worth and Dallas and right through Colleyville.
Unlike its big city siblings on the nearby prairie, Colleyville
is blessed with soil that supports a cornucopia of trees and understory
plants and is renowned for producing larger trees. In pioneer
times the band of timber was a famous landmark. In fact, the area
was once so densely wooded that author Washington Irving called
it the “Cast Iron Forest” when he struggled through
on an exploratory trip in the 1830’s.

David Bagwell Company has sought to exploit the tree growing
opportunity that the soils of Colleyville present. We believe
trees represent a segment of our culture not bound up in material
things, and they connect us to the Eternal. In planting trees
throughout the neighborhoods we develop, we seek to create an
enriching environment and instill in each a Sense of Place to
be valued not only by today’s homebuyers, but also by owners
in years to come.
